The three-day conference was held under the theme “Bridging technology, policy, law and practice: Towards strengthening data protection in Zimbabwe”.

She used the occasion to highlight the importance of Zimbabwe clarifying its policy on information technologies and Data Protection before introducing new legislation, offering recommendations based on the transparency demonstrated by leading jurisdictions such as the EU, the UK, the US, and China. Their policies influence legislation and help businesses and private citizens make informed decisions and develop sound strategies. This fosters a predictable regulatory environment, encouraging compliance.

The keynote speaker was Professor Nicolas Petit, a Professor of Competition Law (formerly at the European University Institute in Florence) and the author of the book “Big Tech and the Digital Economy: The Moligopoly Scenario.” He discussed “AI and the Challenge of Law Creation in a Context of Technological Change,” clarifying the provisions of leading tech regulations in the European Union, including the then-nascent AI Act. Professor Petit emphasised the significant regulatory obligations faced by large tech companies and outlined the minimum obligations for smaller entities in the tech industry.

Fintech https://gda.vectorground.net/fintech/ https://gda.vectorground.net/fintech/#respond Mon, 27 Oct 2025 19:31:52 +0000 https://gda.vectorground.net/?p=362 In July 2025, Mrs. Dzitiro attended the 4-day Fintech course for Lawyers, Legal Practitioners, and Compliance Professionals hosted by the University of Cape Town.

The first day focused on the broader fintech landscape, moving beyond well-known cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Dogecoin. Discussions covered investments, crowdfunding, unicorn banking, and robo-advice, as well as the regulation of crypto assets. Subsequent presentations explored the future of these assets, including stablecoins, asset tokenisation, derivatives, and the tokenisation of traditional instruments such as gold and money markets.

The following days were spent reviewing the South African Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA) and the obligations it imposes on accountable institutions in relation to the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and the era of data privacy.

Participants reviewed IT contracts and concluded the training with a discussion on innovation in fintech and the protection of IP rights related to innovation.

Dzitiro Attorneys, is one of the speakers. She presented on the topic “Cross-border transfers of data- Milestones in the EU, China, and SADC market integration systems and regulatory frameworks”. The African Cyber Law Conference featured a lineup of panels with different speakers, and Mrs. Dzitiro served both as a panellist and as a facilitator. Discussions centred around the theme of the conference “Towards an integrated and intelligent cyberspace through harmonised African Legal Frameworks.”

The African Cyber Law conference featured keynote presentations by leading academics and authors, including Professor Caroline Ncube from the University of Cape Town, who discussed “Continental harmonisation of cyber law in Africa: players, priorities and prognosis.” Professor S. Papadopoulis from the University of Pretoria spoke on “Balancing growth and governance: South Africa’s regulatory challenges in the digital economy,” and Professor S. Snail-Ka Mtuze presented on “The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the legal process – an analysis of court cases decided.”
